Ministers of Agriculture of CR and Moldavian Republic signed Memorandum of Understanding

On base of invitation of the Minister of Agriculture of the Moldavian Republic Valeriu Cosarciuca, the Minister of Agriculture of the CR Jakub Šebesta will officially visit this country today and tomorrow. The ministers signed the Memorandum of Understanding today concerning the cooperation of both the countries in agricultural area. “The Czech Republic considers Moldavia as a partner country and I believe that the signing of the Memorandum will strengthen the present cooperation in the area of agriculture between our countries. The Czech Republic fully supports the Moldavian Republic in the effort oriented to admission in the European Union and the signing of the Memorandum is a confirmation of this fact”.

Farmers: CR self-sufficiency in pig meat will decrease below 50 pct this year

177 000 tonnes of pig meat was imported in the Czech Republic last year. It is roughly 40 percents of consumption. If conditions of inland breeders are not evened-up at least partially with those from the European Union, Czech self-sufficiency in pig meat will decrease below 50 percents his year. The president of Agrarian Chamber Jan Veleba said it to journalists in Brno today. Before accession of our country in the EU in 2003, breeders covered the entire domestic market and roughly fifth of meat was exported. “Numbers of pigs in the Czech Republic decreased by fifth to two millions last year. Pig meat import from abroad increased in the same ratio”.

Government increased finances for flood-protection measures to 11.5 bil. CZK

The government approved an increase of means for flood-protection measures by one billion crowns. After the Cabinet meeting it was said to journalists by the Premier Jan Fisher. The total sum in the programme Support and Prevention against Floods for the years 2007 to 2013 will be increased to 11.5 billion crowns from originally planned 10,5 billion. The means should be increased by transfer of finances from a programme in frame of which ponds are get rid of mud, their dikes are repaired, or new waterworks are built. It had been brought out by the Ministry of Agriculture already earlier. Instead of this, the money will be used for land adjustments in frame of flood-protection measures.

Pilsen will revitalize regular farmer markets

After tens of years, a civic association ENVIC renewed regular markets with local vegetable, fruits, milk and meat products in Pilsen. Pilsen farmer markets will start in the atrium of hotel Gondola in Pilsen center this Saturday morning and they will take place at the same place always the last Saturday in month till October except July, the program coordinator Tomá š Popp from the Environmental Center (ENVIC) told. They should be once in two weeks in bigger area next year. “Czech consumers started to be aware of the fact that it is not possible to choose foods only on base of a price.”
