Rains have damaged five percents of planted vegetable so far

In recent weeks, rainstorms, hails and floods have destroyed roughly five percents of vegetable planted this year in the Czech Republic. However, the total crop is not endangered significantly yet. A chairman of Czech and Moravian Vegetable Union, Jaroslav Zeman, said it to ČTK today. The unfavourable weather caused damages above all to Moravian growers. Mainly fields of warm-requiring kinds of berry-vegetable are significantly damaged here, for example cucumber, melons and peppers.

Food inspection closed evaluation of chains stores

At the end of 2008, the State Agricultural and Food Inspection announced its intention to evaluate chain stores and subsequently to publish results of this evaluation. For these purposes, in cooperation with Technical University, a special statistic methodology was created which takes into consideration a various number of premises of particular chains, a different number and extent of checks. On base of its results can be determined whether there are statistically significant differences among the assessed subjects.

MfD: Milk from automats is not objectionable - result of tests

It is not necessary to be afraid of fresh milk from Czech sale automats. It resulted from the analysis which the daily Mladá fronta Dnes (MfD) had ordered in cooperation with the State Veterinary Office. MfD published that the pathogenic bacteria, which cause a disease, were not found in any of fifteen samples taken in various regions. The test did not confirm a warning of the Ministry of Health according to which the main risk of unpasteurized milk is “a possible transfer of bacterial and viral agents of infectious diseases”.

Europe accept crops with artificially changed genes

Press agencies from Brussels announce that the European Commission (EK) prepares a release of rules limiting genetically modified crops growing. It will show itself also on Czech fields. Scientists intervened artificially in the gene kit of genetically modified (transgenic) plants, so the plants gain new characters. The new Union rules should be adopted in half of July. It will enable to approve of growing of new crops faster and more easily. However, at the same time the EU member countries will get the right to reduce their growing in their territory by own regulations.
