Amount of honey will be smaller and honey price will rise in shops this year

Amount of honey will be smaller this year against the foregoing years. We have to prepare for that probably its price will increase. Large and small bee-keepers in the Czech Republic agree on estimation of this year´s production. Mainly the weather is to blame; bees could not fly for nectar owing to rains in May; now, bee-keepers suffer from big droughts. A secretary of the Professional Bee-keepers Guild, Petr Táborský, said to Právo that the situation differs region from region but bee-keepers reach only a half of average yields in some places. Concerning the honey price, some bee-keepers already arrange it upwards, also honey collection centers offer more.

Ministry of Agriculture supports healthy lifestyle

The Czech Republic is not successful in a long term to reverse an increasing obesity rate in adults and children, as well as a still increasing number of cases of ischemic heart disease. One of possibilities to reduce these negative trends is to increase the public interest in consummation of fresh-water fish. The Ministry of Agriculture realizes a long-term communication campaign Ryba domácí (Domestic fish) at present. One of its aims is just to acquaint the public with health benefits which the consumption of fresh-water fish brings.

This year´s weather crushed the grape crop

Frosts, cloud bursts and sultry heats. And diseases perenospore and oidium. Vine-growers in South Moravia remember in vain a worse year for growth of grapevine than is this year. They will have nothing to harvest. It is because of record frosts in winter, spring constant rains, tropical summer heats and a massive attack of diseases. Moreover, the situation is similar in the entire region. Who treated in time and correctly the vineyards with a sprey, a part of crop is probably saved. Despite of that experts expect that this year´s harvest will hardly touch a long-term average.

Parasite lurks on bilberries – fox tapeworm

People can bring with bilberries, strawberries and cranberries from forest also eggs of dangerous parasite, fox tapeworm (Echinococcus multilocularis). A risk of disease can not be underestimated even if it is relatively small. The parasite whose the main host are mainly foxes can cause even a death when is not healed. The disease shows itself for example by high fevers, tabescence and big tiredness. Doctors reveal it by a patient´s blood analysis. Therefore, people should be aware and eat bilberries clean, best well washed.
