Reduction of red meat consumption is recommended

Norwegian Nutrition Council delivered a recommendation that owing to reduction of occurence of cancer and heart diseases people should consume maximum 500 g of red meat weekly (2 portions of warm meal and a minimum products in cold state). Denmark follows the Norwegian model. The recommendation is based on the newest META-study from which it results that there are evidences about an influence of red meat consumption on occurence of rectum and colon cancer, and probably also on occurence of gullet, stomach, prostata and lung cancer.

Russia will temporarily stop wheat export owing to drought

Russian premier Vladimír Putin declared a temporary ban of export of cereals and connected agricultural products from the country suffered from drought. It was told by Putin´s spokesman today. After that the price of main wheat futures contract in the United States raised the most over the last 23 months. The main cause of the price increase are fears that a food crisis from 2007 and 2008 will repeat as well as an anxiety about inflation.

Cloned cows avoid checks, people eat them unawares

A check on cloned animals in Europe exceeds control. For example in Great Britain, several cases were found out in recent days when meat and milk from cloned cows got in a common sale. Then, people consumed these foods unaware of that they originated from artificially created animals.

Genetically modified nightshade denied in India for the present

India stopped registration of genetically modified nightshade with a statement that to secure safety of consumers it is necessary to realize other studies. A government commission approved growing of genetically modified nightshade resistant to pests on the market in October last year. However, the Minister of Environment Džajrám Rámeš announced that it is necessary to carry out another independent research to secure that a hybrid nightshade is a safe food for people.
