Milk production starts again to pay off, farmers have 7.50 CZK for liter

Milk production started again to pay off after last year problems. Buy-out prices for liter increased almost for two crowns to the current 7.50 crowns this year which, according to farmers, cover production costs. Moreover, they should still grow. Last year in autumn, farmers poured milk on fields in protests against low buy-out prices. The Agrarian Chamber focuses now mainly on promotion of domestic products in Czech consumers.

New EU approach to growing of GMO

Genetically modified organisms (GMO) are organisms (e.g. plants and animals) in which genetic characteristics were artificially modified to get a new quality. Foods and feeds which contain or composed of such GMO, or are produced from GMO are called genetically modified foods and feeds. To secure a safe development of modern biotechnology and especially of the GMO, to EU created a legislative framework regulating GM foods and feeds in the EU.

FAO: There is not danger of repetition of food crisis from 2008, markets are unsteady

A repetition of a world food crisis from the year 2008 with hungry storm in many developing countries despite the bad crops in Russia does not show now and this year´s global harvest of cereals will be the third highest in the history. It was announced by the Food and Agriculture Organization of UNO. However, the food agency of UNO warned that markets and prices will stay unsteady and it appealed to international communities to try to moderate this instability.

All plums have stones, some of them are enjoyable

Fruit and vegetable consumption in the Czech Republic gravely decreases, while number of children endangered by obesity sorely grows. A campaign “Fruit in schools” aims to support liking for fruits and vegetable among children. Almost three thousand of schools have joined the project; the Ministry of Agriculture prepared for all primary schools in the Czech Republic, whose number is over four thousand, CD full of merry vitamin songs “All plums have stones”.
