Rescue of horse-breeding farms Kladruby does not take place

There is a danger of gradual doom of one of gems of Czech culture. In May, Jan Fisher´s government approved transformation of the horse-breeding farm Kladruby from a state enterprise to an allowance organization to enable it to draw European grant and to help at least partially to rescue it. However, it shows that the promised sum of 300 million crowns from the EU funds is not at disposal.

Fertilizer consumption decreased by 40 pct last year, according to ecologists only temporarily

Owing to a fall of buy-out prices and a rise in prices of commercial fertilizers last year, Czech farmers reduced their use almost by 40 percents. Also pesticide consumption decreased slightly. It results from data of the Ministry of Agriculture (MZe). Ecologists welcome this phenomenon, however, according to them it is only temporary. Conservationists criticize an intensive agriculture because of a high consumption of chemicals in the long-term.

CNN: Frost exiles Mongolian shepherds from their land

For thirty eight years old Bajancul, this year´s winter was the last which his patience has withstood. After he had forfeited one third of herd, which died of temperatures decreasing to minus 45 centigrades, he decided to abandon a migratory life and try his luck in a town. It was written by news server CNN. “The last winter was just too hard”, he says, while herding slowly his herd from pastures in Bulgan region on markets in the city Ulánbátar.

USA: Ministry will support school gardens and education about healthy boarding

American Minister of Agriculture, Tom Vilsack announced in August that his office had started a pilot programme called People's Garden School Pilot Program. The programme will support creating and operation of school gardens in poor quarters (slums), to educate students about agriculture and healthy food. The programme budget is 1 million dollars (almost 20 millions CZK).
