Commission plans to reduce agricultural grants

Direct subsidies to farmers in the European Union should have flexible ceiling. The Commission states it its draft of a reform of the Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) after 2013. The information was brought by the agency Reuters. The European Commission suggested already in 2007 so that grant for the only farmer would not exceed 300 000 Euros. However, European governments refused the proposal. The Commission explains in its new text that negative impacts, which the new measurement could cause, would be reduced thanks to its flexibility. For example a ceiling for agricultural estates which employee many workers would be higher than for small farms.

CSO: Carrot and sugar price raised in shops, on the contrary price of bananas decreased

During the last two weeks, carrot raised in price the most, by nine percents in domestic shops. People paid more also for granulated sugar, white light yoghurts, butter and eggs this week. Vice versa, they could buy cheaper bananas, apples and natural carbonated mineral water. It results from Monday data published by the Czech Statistic Office (CSO) today. Carrot was sold by sellers for average 14.54 crowns per kilogram at beginning of the week which is by 1.2 crowns more than 14 days ago.

EC want farmers to protect more environment and natural resources

Farmers in the European Union will have to do more for protection of the environment and natural resources to deserve Brussels grants. It is introduced in a draft of agricultural policy reform from 2013 which should be published by the European Commission in half of next month. However, an agricultural lobby in the Union objects that the Commission plan will increase costs to European farmers. Direct subsidies to farmers should still represent a support of their basic income, however, a part the payment will refer to obligatory objectives of ecological protection.

October in hunting

Amount of natural food resources for game gradually decreases and animals are forced to look for food on fields where they pasture rape and early sown cereals. Hoofed game starts to flock in winter herds - they become more visible which is not a manifestation of game overpopulation, as ecological activist assume naively, but it is dealt with its natural behaviour with aim to increase probability of survival of winter period and resistance against predators. Huntsmen have to feed them additionally in October. Game needs to take in fat reserves which decide about the survival winter period.
