Meat production decreased by 3.1 pct last year, milk purchase by 1.8 pct

Domestic meat production has decreased year-on-yearly by 3.1 percents to 538 554 tonnes in slaughter weight last year, beef meat production has decreased the most significantly. Milk purchase has decreased year-on-yearly by 1.8 percents to 2.25 billion litres. The Czech Statistic Office informed on it today. Last year, it was produced 73 730 tonnes of beef meat, 529 tonnes of veal, 275 905 tonnes of pig meat, 145 tonnes of mutton (of it 101 tonnes of lamb), four tonnes of goat meat, 63 tonnes of horse meat and 188 177 tonnes of poultry meat. The production of beef meat including veal decreased by 3.6 percents in 2010 against 2009; the production of pig meat was year-on-yearly lower by three percents.

Farmers will be without subsidies in region

The Ministry of Agriculture does not count on evening-up of direct subsidies over the year 2011. Cooperatives in a region will miss millions. Whether they grow sugar beet, cereals or corn, they should get direct subsidies assessed per one hectare of land. What the European Union will not pay, the state should even up. However, the budget of Ministry of Agriculture does not count on national supplemental payments this year. “It can be liquidating for some farmers”, a director of the Regional Agrarian Chamber in South-Moravian region, Jaromír Musil warns. For example Bonagro from the region Brno belongs among cooperatives which will not get the subsidies.

Germany: Huge interest in bio-eggs after dioxin scandal

According to German retailers and bio-sellers, a demand for bio-eggs has vigorously increased in recent days as a consequence of a dioxin scandal. Fears from lack of goods appeared after consumers had started to refuse eggs from cage farms. “People still more and more prefer eggs from organic farms which are not affected by the dioxin scandal”, Margit Beck from a research agency MEG says. According to her, the total demand for eggs has decreased. Since a half of January, German consumers are scared by the food scandal which had required a closure of almost 5 000 farms and a destruction more tan 100 000 eggs.

FAO: Share of fish in human diet increases, however, natural resource give out

A share of fish in human diet increases owing to expanding fishing, however, reserves in oceans still give out in spite of an effort to regulate an excessive fishing. The Food and Agriculture Organization of UNO (FAO) published an estimation today that a share of “mined out” and renewing natural reserves is slightly higher than in 2006. The FAO is afraid of the fishing trend, however, on the other hand it refers to the fact that financial and nutrition contributions of higher production and consumption should not be disregarded. Fishing and fish farming ensures a living to about 540 million people which represents eight percents of the world population.
