Union supported renewal of ponds in Vysočina already by almost one billion

The European Union promised to contribute with almost one billion crowns for a renewal and building of ponds in the region Vysočina. More than 230 applicants have succeeded with projects for water regime improvement in recent three years; it was the highest number in the entire country. Vysočina obtained approximately a quarter of subsidies focused on ponds and water course revitalization. It results from data published on the internet. “I think that it is positive for the landscape, essentially”, Václav Hlaváč, a manager of centre of the Agency of Conservation of Nature and Landscape in Havlíčkův Brod, appreciated the fast increase in number of ponds in Vysočina.

Bananas price could decrease, Euro-representatives approved lower customs

Bananas sold in the European Union could be cheaper. European representatives approved a trade agreement on import duties for bananas from Latin America today. The agreement counts on decrease of tariffs for bananas from Latin America from the current 176 Euros per tonne to 114 Euros (roughly 2750 CZK) in 2017. The change is a result of long-term trade dispute. “The trade war ends, bananas will decrease in price”, the Euro-representatives Jan Březina stated in his enouncement. “Import of bananas will be finally equalized and unsubstantiated favouritism of former European colonies will end”, he added.

FAO: World food prices increased on new record in January

World food prices climbed on maximum over at least 21 years in January and exceeded present records from 2008. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of UNO stated it today. Its index increased by 3.5 percents last month and got the highest since its foundation in 1990. The index which monitors monthly changes in cereals, oil plants, milk products, meat, and sugar increased on 230.7 points from 223.1 points in December. According to data from last month, the index reached a record valued already in December when it exceeded maximum from June 2008. However, the FAO subjugated the index to a total inspection and the present numbers settle the primacy to January.

German dioxin scandal with poisoned feed, eggs and meat lasting already for one month should have a surprising continuation. This time in the Czech Republic. German warning against the dangerous fodder fat appeared in the system RASFF on the 28th of January, for the Czech Republic and Poland. So, an updated list of states which Germans warn against fodder fat for pigs and poultry, contaminated with dioxins, grew from three to five countries. The original warning from the end of last year was determined only to Denmark, the Netherlands and Great Britain.
