Numbers of pigs, poultry and cattle decrease in South Moravia last year

Numbers of pigs in the South Moravian region decreased to 266 387 pieces year-on-yearly last year which is less than in 2009. Numbers of cattle decreased by 9 000 to 60 000 pieces in the region at the end of last year. Also numbers of poultry decreased here last year; farmers raised 4 057 pieces, year-on-yearly by 7.3 percents less. It results from statistics published by the Czech Statistic Office (CSO). Number of pigs decreased last year in the entire Czech Republic; it fell to 1.84 million pieces which is the lowest value since 1946.

Czech farmers leave growing of genetically modified crop-plants

Czech farmers probably leave growing of genetically modified crop-plants (GMO). An area determined for their growing decreased by more than one third in the Czech Republic last year in comparison with 2009, concretely by 27.78 percents to 4 680 hectares. One year ago it was 6 480 hectares. It results from a statistics of ISAAA organization published today. It monitors growing of genetically modified crop-plants in the world.

EU will apparently allow feeding with meat and bone meal, it does not dread of mad cow disease

The Union forbade feeding with meat and bone meal already more than ten years ago owing to fears from a spread of so called mad cow disease, also known under an abbreviation BSE. The European Union considers that it will allow feeding with meat and bone meal for pigs and poultry. The Czech Minister Ivan Fuksa said it to ČTK during a meeting of EU ministers in Brussels on Monday.

Lesy ČR insists necessarily on fair wood prices

Some contract partners of Lesy ČR refuse to pay for wood a voluntarily offered price adjusted by a valid price index announced by the Czech Statistic Office in February 2011 like they bound themselves to that in a contract. According to the index, wood prices have increased against the second quarter of last year by 11.4 % in coniferous timber and by 0.1 % in leafy timber. Lesy ČR insists on the purchase wood prices in height which results from the closed contract. The adjustment of purchase wood price by form of indexation was a part of contractual conditions in a public commission.
