Czech garlic? Scarce commodities

The Czechs consume as many as 7 thousand tones per year. The CR is dependent on import from four fifths. It is cheaper and domestic growers are not able to compete. It is practically impossible to get Czech garlic in shops in the Czech Republic, despite the fact that the interest in it has significantly grown among consumers recently. It results from expression of farmers and sellers. Today, the CR in this traditional vegetable and after inclusion of what people grow themselves in their gardens is self-sufficient only from one fifth.

Stráský: Intervention against wood engraver in Šumava will behard

According to a new director of the national park, Jan Stráský, an intervention against wood engraver in Šumava will be hard. In an interview in Mladá fronta Dnes he stated that he would have liked to put through a foundation of generally beneficial company which would take care for forests. It would mean for example the end for logging mini-tenders. “We will try to stop the wood engraver outbreak. According some experts, it does not have to be successful. I think that it is never late. The intervention will be hard in some places, however, it will mean the end and not that we will cut in three month again”, Stráský told.

E15: CR will want to double EU subsidies for fish producers

The Ministry of Agriculture in a new programme period 2004 - 2010 will want to increase a sum of money from the EU for domestic fish producers to as much as double. Today´s issue of EU15 stated it. At the present period 2007 - 2013, Czech producers have at the disposal from the Operational Programme Fishery 36.1 million Euros (900 million crowns). Of it 27.1 million Euros in the European Fishing Fund and the rest is from the Czech state budget.

Record management of Lesy ČR: wood prices and reduction of costs

Members of management of the state enterprise Lesy ČR announced a record operating results in a height of 3.13 billion crowns at a press conference of Lesy ČR on the 24th of February. The main reasons of the record management were the growth of wood prices and a pressure for expenses of the enterprise. Further, Lesy ČR informed on coming end of closing of contracts of one-year tender for forest works in 2011. On the date 23rd of February, 101 contracts of 108 contractual territorial units with 26 contractual partners have been closed.
