SMO called upon ministries to create strategies for Czech countryside
Union of Towns and Municipalities of the Czech Republic (SMO ČR) and other participants of today´s round table on the theme rural development called upon the Ministry of Agriculture and the Ministry for Regional Development to elaborate a long-term strategy of Czech countryside development which the state misses. A chairman of the Union, Oldřich Vlasák, said it to journalists today. The Union also requires so that needs of the countryside were taken into consideration in future programmes for spending of European subsidies.
Croatia has met EU criteria in area of agriculture
The European Union and Croatia have succeeded to close already 30 of the total number of 35 chapters of accession negotiation. Croatia has met all criteria of “Acquis communautaire” (Community law) of the European Unionin the area of agriculture and rural development. As a commissioner responsible for EU enlargement and neighbour policy Štefan Füle, appropriate chapters of accession negotiations have been closed.
Meat production in Czech Republic went down in quarter
In the 1st quarter, 122 660 tonnes of meat have been produced in the Czech Republic which is year-on-yearly by 6.3 percents less. The result was influenced above all by a decrease in pig meat production (by 3 231 tonnes) and poultry meat production (by 5 256 tonnes). The data were published by the Czech Statistic Office (SCO) today. 554 629 thousand liters of milk have been delivered in dairy works for an average price which is higher year-on-yearly by 17.8 percents.
Plague deprived beekeepers of tens of bee colonies
Owing to occurrence of plague beekeepers have lost not their whole colonies of bees but also beehives and other necessary aid. Plague, generally quoted as a disaster, has hit the region Domažlice. Owing to the plague of bee larvae beekeepers in the Mrákov region had to burn almost thirty bee colonies including beehives and all nonmetallic aid. “I can imagine how their felt. It is terrible; I experienced it myself in 2001. Thirty years of beekeeping had gone within four and half ours. When I burned bees, I apologized to them”, Karel Strnad, a sanitarist of a regional beekeepers organization, who has experienced bee plague himself, remembers.
