Infection danger of enteric bacteria EHEC in EU
An infection dangerous to life caused by the enteric bacteria called enteroheamorrhagic Escherichia coli (EHEC) fulminated roughly in half of May in the north of Germany and since that time it has spread to the entire territory of the Federal Republic. At present, 15 of 16 federative countries report its occurrence including Saxony and Bavaria lying at Czech borders. A resource of the dangerous enteric infection, which has spread in Germany, is salad cucumbers from Spain. The infection has been already proved in one patient in Denmark, too.
ÚOHS permitted entry of Agrofert in forestry field
The Office for the Protection of Competition (ÚOHS) has permitted an entry of the group Agrofert in the field of forestry, logging, and wood processing. It can take over firms of a group Wotan which is an important player in this area. ÚOHS stated it in a press release today. According to a chairman of the antimonopoly office Petr Rafaj, activities of merging subjects neither overlap nor they concur horizontally. “The mergence will not result in disturbance of economic competition”, Rafaj stated.
SZPI found excess amount of sulphure dioxide in candied pears from China
The State Agricultural and Food Inspection (SZPI) has found almost quadruple excess amount of the maximal limit for sulphure dioxide in a product with a trade name “Kandované hrušky” (Candied pears), charge L: O 056, the date of expiration 1.10.2011, package 150 g. The candied pears come from Chine. They were imported in the Czech Republic by Czech company K-SERVIS PRAHA, a.s. through the Netherlands. This firm sold 937.5 kg of pears in form of small sale without invoicing. Other 362.5 kg of the product it delivered to a firm České houby a.s. within its check the SZPI inspectors found the objectionable pears.
Karlovarské oplatky will gain EU indication, in spite of Germans´ objections
Karlovarské oplatky (Karlsbad waffles) and Karlovarské trojhránky (Karlsbad triangles) in spite of objections of Germans and Austrians will obtain a protected indication of the European Union. Countries of the “twenty seven” have decided on it. However, complicated negotiations, which have dragged for almost seven years, preceded this fact. “Karlovarské oplatky will stay in equity the Czech speciality”, Czech ambassaroress at the EU Milena Vicenová stated.
