Fruit-growers sell off apples; there will be only ones from import in shops

In these days, Czech fruit-growers sell off last apples which stored in autumn after the last year´s harvest. In shops, there will be only imported apples till the next harvest. Against Czech apples, they are usually more expensive. A chairman of the Fruit-Grower Union of the CR Martin Ludvík said it to ČTK today. An average Czech eats about 26 kilograms of apples yearly which is the most of all kinds of fruit.

Food prices decreased in May; FAO expects record cereal production

World food prices in May, thanks to depreciation of cereals and a fall of sugar prices decreased in total by one percent, however, hey remain more than one third above the last year´s May level. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the UNO stated it today. The agency predicts also in its first estimation of this year´s total production an increase of cereal harvest as to a new record.

Romania claims damages for its farmers at EU

Romania has asked the European Union to adopt “extraordinary measures” to a financial compensation of vegetable producers. They are afflicted with a fall in sale owing to a deadly enteric bacterial epidemic coming from Germany. Romanian Minister of Agriculture Valeriu Tabara declared it today. “We sent a letter to the EU commissioner for agriculture with a request so that the commission considers extraordinary measures to compensation of all afflicted vegetable growers”, Tabara told at a press conference.

Government is for preservation of money amount for EU agricultural policy

In negotiation about the future of the EU Common Agricultural Policy (CAP) from 2014, the government will advocate a preservation of amount of allotted money at the current level of approximately 55 billion Euro annually (over 1.3 billion crowns). Reputedly at the same time, the Cabinet will promote evening-up of uneven endowment conditions among particular EU members. The president of Agrarian Chamber Jan Veleba said it today after today´s negotiation with the premiere Petr Nečas and subsequently he confirmed a source from press department of the government.
