SZPI ordered withdrawal of bitter pine nuts

The State Agricultural and Food Inspection has ordered to witdraw several product batches which contain pine nuts from market. According to inspectors´ findings they caused so called „pine mouth syndrome“ in consumation , so a state of unpleasant taste perceptions which can persist even for several days to weeks after consumation. The inconvenient nuts of pine originating from China were packaged in the CR and distributed by companies POEX Velké Meziříčí a.s. and VEGA PROVITA, s.r.o.

Unknown substance caused death of several hundreds of trouts in Svitavy region

Several hundreds of trouts for roughly 70 000 crowns died in a private pond near Svojanov in Svitavy region on Thursday. Water was polluted with an unknown substance. Firemen had to haul survived fish and „to wash“ it in tubs so that it would be able to breath again. A spokeswoman of regional firemen Vendula Horáková informed ČTK about it. The police investigates the case as a possible offence of damage to a thing of somebody else.

IGC: World corn production willreach new record this year

The world corn production will increase by five percents this year and will reach a record level 858 million tonnes. A branch research agency International Grains Council (ICG) predicted it today. The Council also increased slightly an estimation of the world wheat crop. The increment of estimation in corn from the previous prognosis 843 million tonnes was rationalized by the agency by inclusion of official data about Chinese crop last year, a revision of estimations of area under crop in the United States, and by improved conditions in Black-Sea area. The Department of Agriculture and Food of the USA increased the estimation of area under corn today from which a record harvest results for this year.

Risk pays off to poachers; amendment will help

Huntsmen and caretakers of forest districts in Slovácko can not wait to see a prepared amendment of criminal code which should more penalized poaching. According to the current norm, which holds since the 1st of January last year, the poaching is a crime only when it is proved that a poacher caused a damage higher than five thousand crowns. Otherwise it is dealt only with an offence. And poachers misuse it.
