Beginning of harvest in Zlín region was delayed by heavy rains and local floods

The beginning of harvest in the region Zlín was delayed by heavy rains and local floods at the end of last week. While in foregoing years, some farmers already harvested the earliest cereal, winter barley, at this time, they have not go on fields this year yet. A chairman of the Agrarian Chamber of the region Zlín, Josef Radílek, said it to ČTK today. “Acording to my information, farmers will go on fields at first at this week end, rather at the bceginning of the next one. The beginning of works was delayed by rainy weather”, Radílek told and added that farmers have sown area approximately of the same size as last year this year. According to information of the Czech Statistic Office it was almost 57 000 hectares.

Fruit-Growers Union of CR obtained nomination to European ecological prize for entrepreneurs 2012 in category “environmental management”

The Fruit-Growers union of the CR succeeded with a project “Integrated fruit production” in a competition of the company Business Leaders Forum and will strive for the European ecological prize in a category “environmental management” next year in June. The Ministry of Agriculture supports “Integrated fruit growing” from 2005. Czech fruit growers grow fruits in accordance with protection of the environment and they manage well to offer high-quality fruits to customers

World food prices increased by one percent owing to sugar in June

World food prices increased at average roughly by one percent in June and erased May decrease. Cereals price cheapen further, however, price of sugar raised significantly. The Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the UNO communicated it today. The FAO also increased further its estimation of this year´s cereals production to other record. The FAO index of world food prices increased to 234 point in June from the revised May level 231 points.

Russia wants to grow bigger volume of vegetable in greenhouses

For the reason of reduction of vegetable imports from the European Union, Russia wants in the future to increase production of vegetable in greenhouses. The appropriate programme proposal was submitted by the government committee for agricultural matters last week. At the same time, the committee, under direction of the first Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov negotiated a similar proposal concerning fruit growing.
