Erosion eats off crop, causes milliard damages

Loses owing to deterioration of soil quality are the all-society problem. However, an efficient defense against the unfavourable development is not easy. Erosion attacks. A new phenomenon of Czech agriculture endangers already a half of area of arable land. According to recent analyses, within the worst possible scenario, it could destroy in close future as many as 21 million tonnes of land in year. Financially it can be expressed as a loss of 4.3 milliard crowns.

Babiš´s Agrofert is going to swallow Czech butcher firm Zedníček

An agrarian colossus Agrofert Holding of an entrepreneur Anfrej Babiš wants to dominate Czech butcher firm Zedníček from Kunovice in the region Uherské Hradiště. The Antimonopoly Office informed on the planned fusion on its internet sites. Kunovice firm, according its web, deliveries goods in almost two thousand shops in the Czech Republic and Slovakia and belongs to the biggest inland suppliers of cooled foods. Antimonopoly officers will examine not if the fusion does not disturb economy competition in the area of meat products from pig, beef and poultry meat.

Activists want court to forbid police to intervene in Šumava

One of perticipants of a blockade against cutting of trees attacked with wood engraver Na Ztraceném near Modrava, Pilsner activist Martin Marek, addressed the court to prevent the police by means of a preliminary measure to intervene against the activists. According to Marek the police act unlawfully. If the court satisfies his proposal and issues the preliminary measurement, the police could not further obstruct activists to move in delimited zones and take them out from areas marked for harvest cutting. Marek announced it to ČTK today. Also the Ombudsman Office can deal with the cutting on base of other stimuli.

Rains in CR decelerate harvest; they almost did not proceed in last week

The rainy weather still obstructs harvest in the Czech Republic. Over the last week, cereals harvest progressed only by six percent of the total harvest area; in some region the harvesting almost stopped. To this day, 17 percents of cereals areas and a half of fields with rape have been harvested. It results from information provided by the Agrarian Chamber. Average yields in cereals and rape are higher, for the present, than the last year. For example in Vysočina farmers harvested only 87 hectares of cereals and 78 hectares of rape over the last week. In the region Opava, only 2.4 percents of cereals and seven percents of rape are harvested.
