Warning against over-fertilization of crops with sulphur

Problems of excessive supply of agricultural cultures with sulphur are explained by an actual gazette of German advisory service devoted to efficiency of fertilization. As the author of article Dr. Frank Eulenstein from Leibnitz center for research of agricultural landscape (ZALF) emphasized, many fertilizers contain such a relation of sulphur to nitrogen which is optimal for most crops. However, also many products which contained too high portion of suphur appeared on the market. Over-fertilization can lead to soil acidification and thereby to problems with soil fertility. In already acid soils a danger arises that by further calcium washout by seepage water accessibility of heavy metals will increase, Dr. Eulenstein states.
