Number of agricultural subjects in CR decreased over ten years by 13.8 pct

The number of agricultural subjects in the Czech Republic has decreased over the last ten years by 13.8 percents to 22 864. The area of managed agricultural land gradually decreases. At the present time, agricultural subjects manage 3 483 500 hectares which represents 96.6 percents of acreage in 2000. The share of agriculture in GDP decreased from three percents to 2,4 percents. It results from a Agrocenzus survey 2010 published today by the Czech Statistic Office at Země živitelka. „The number of employees in agriculture significantly decreased against the year 2000: from 166 365 in 2000 to 108 814 in 2010 which created roughly 2.8 percents of all employees of the national economy“, a chairwoman of the CSO Iva Ritschelová. According to her opinion the number of employees decreased, but the average wage increased, however, it will stay still a substantially lower than the average of national economy is.

Nečas: Farmers export raw materials which return as foods

According to the premier Petr Nečas (ODS), Czech agriculture has to strive above all not only to export raw materials abroad which return later as ready food products. He said it today at opening of national harvest festival in České Budějovice at the agrisalon Země živitelka. “If raw materials grown in the Czech Republic are exported abroad where foods are produced from them, the added value remains abroad”, Nečas stated According to him, Czech farmers have to work on better interconnection with the food industry.

Premier Petr Nečas and Minister of Agriculture Ivan Fuksa celebrated National harvest festival

At a traditional Nationa harvest festival, which takes place in the framework of the exhibition Země živitelka in České Budějovice, the premier of Czech government Petr Nečas and the Minister of Agriculture Ivan Fuksa together with farmers celebrated results of their work. “Good news is that this year´s harvest is better than the last year. Agricultural works advanced much father than they were at the same time last year. Almost all winter barley, rape and spring barley are already under roof. Farmers harvested the crop from larger acreage of fields this year and also yields are higher than last year”, the Minister of Agriculture Ivan Fuksa told.

Swiss currency make holes into Emmental, production decreases

The world-famous Swiss cheese Emmental is a victim of strong franc. Owing to strengthening currency, its production decreases. According to world agencies, the Emmental production has already decreased by a third which started to be dangerous for smaller producers. A considerable fall of sale has been recorded in the United States; franc strengthened against dollar by twenty percents since beginning of this year. According to Adrian Zehnder, who is a manager of one of dairy works, profit from Emmental sale decreased from 5.49 francs for kilogram of cheese while last year it was 7.80 francs.
