Nečas called back Minister of Agriculture

Confirmed. The premier Petr Nečas called back the Minister of Agriculture Ivan Fuksa. As the first, a server Euro.cz informed on his withdrawal. According to well informed sources, a new minister should be Petr Bendl. If this name was impassable inside ODS, a senator Jiří Oberfalzer could sit in the ministerial chair. Both of them belong to so called anti-Tluchoř wing. Nominations proved that the reason for the withdrawal is not agriculture, but the politics.

Self-sufficiency and food safety. Extinct terms?

The course of events in agrarian sector is influenced also by strong branch organizations. Is or is not the current Czech agriculture on the periphery of politicians´ interest? Obviously, the Ministry of Agriculture would have a different answer to this question than various profession and branch association which with bigger or smaller success also try to influence the development. And more at the present when works on further aiming of the common agricultural policy intensify. The nwegotiated condition will determine development of this branch practically through the whole next decade, even if the new EU budgetary period includes formally only the period 2013 - 2020.

NSS re-opened suit about trade-mark of cheese Smetanito

The Supreme Administrative Court (NSS) re-opened a suit about the trade-mark Smetanito. Judges accorded cassation complaint of Hodonín firm TPK which produces a competitive mark Apetito. According to TPK the product Smetanito from a production of the firm Bel Sýry Česko deceives consumers. The Industrial Property Office stood originally on the Bel Sýry side, the same as later the City Court in Prague. However, just the City Court has to negotiate the suit again. ČTK found out is from an office board of NSS today. NSS has not published reasons for it yet.

New way of potato growing saves water

If potatoes are grown not in ridges but in flat rows, effectiveness of irrigation improves. This conclusion was brought by a research department of American ministry of agriculture in its September report. “New directions in potato growing”. According to scientists a yield increased at average by 6 % and at the same time water consumption decreased by 5 %. Thereby, the effectiveness of water utilization grew approximately by 12 %. The scientists compared in a multi-year study a traditional was of growing in ridges with growing in variously wide increased rows.
