Inequality in subsidies in agriculture in EU goes on

A pressure among Czech farmers culminates and after today´s decisive negotiation in Brussels about the future of the Common Agricultural Policy in the EU it is not clear in whether a different approach to subsidies between the old and new EU countries will not even deepen. Hereat, just this year should be a promise of fair evening up of till this time different supports flowing on farms of the former EU 15 and to newly accessed countries.

Young farmers want bigger support in business

It is expected that a support of starting farmers will be suspended in 2012 and 2013 owing to depletion of means. Young farmers in the Czech Republic would like bigger support in beginning of heir business. In foregoing years, there was so interest in money determined for subsidies to starting farmers that the budget has been already spent. However, farmers do not want to wait till the next endowment period which should start in the framework of the proposed reform of the Common Agricultural Policy from 2014.

Owing to big crop growers sell potatoes for loss-making prices

The potato crop in the Czech Republic is almost by fifth higher than last year. According to estimation of the Czech Statistic Office, over 786 000 tonnes will be harvested. Owing to an excess pressure on the market growers obtain now maximally two crowns for one kilogram which means a loss for them, according to the Central Potato Growing Union of the CR. A price reduction has already appeared also in shops. Hypermarkets in Havlíčkův Brod offer one kilogram of potatoes in action even for less than three crowns. “The three crowns should attract customers in markets, not to buy potatoes”.

Price of peppers went down in shops, price of tomatoes significantly raised

Price of peppers, potatoes and apples have gone significantly down in Czech shops in recent four weeks. Vice versa, price of tomatoes have risen almost by 38 percents. Also oranges were more expensive. It results from data published by the Czech Statistic Office today. It was possible to buy peppers for 39.86 crowns for a kilogram and it decreased in price by 6.83 crowns, so by almost 15 percents. Price of potatoes fell by 99 hellers to average 8.41 CZK/kg. People could buy apples at average for 26.73 CZK/kg; it was by 2.97 crowns per kilogram cheaper.
