Prices decrease owing to good crop; farmers hesitate with sale

Farmer prices decrease owing to this year´s good crop. Farmers get less money for cereals than at harvest time; sale for potatoes and for example for hops is hardly found, Martin Pýcha, a secretary of the Agricultural Union and the only candidate for a chairman of the Union said to ČTK at today´s conference in Žďár nad Sázavou. According to the Czech Statistic Office (CSO), this year´s harvest was one of the best in the last decade. “Farmers who have warehousing space wait. Those who do not have stores, have already had to sell the crop”, Pýcha told. In his opinion, it is also one of the factors which press on price reduction.

The present secretary of the Agricultural Union of the CR, Martin Pýcha (36), was elected the president of this organization for three years. A nation-wide conference in Žďár nad Sázavou resolved on it. The present chairman Miroslav Jirovský, who had been leading the biggest agrarian organization in the country for 12 years, did no more run. He got in the union management as a vice-chairman 21 years ago. Jirovský stays a member of the union committee. He will go in for agriculture also as a chairman of directorship of a firm Pias Suchdol.

More sugar in sugar beet

Increase in sugar yields is an aim of a new, all-German research project „Betamorphosis“ which is was approved now by the Bundesministerium für Bildung und Forschung (BMBF). As the University Würzburg states as one of six project partner organizations, sugar yields and sugar concentration are in sugar beet in mutual inconsonance - plants which create very big bulbs inlay only small amount of sugar and bulbs with a high sugar content yields are very low.

Klasa: Czechs look for Czech foods still more and more on shelves in shops

After years when people look with astonishment towards the West, the Czech want still more and more Czech foods. According Jana Veselá, a marketing specialist of the mark Klasa, the State Agricultural and Food Inspection (SZIF) has an actual study which confirms that the CR inhabitants prefer domestic products still more often. Producers stated in inquiries that the mark increases saleability by some percent, she added. “So that people would buy quality and checked up foods, wee cooperate with the State Veterinary Administration and Food Inspection which checks regularly operations and products”, Veselá said to ČTK today within an excursion in a firm Stock Plzeň-Božkov.
