FAO price index decreased in October

A steep fall in prices of cereals, oils, sugar and milk products in October caused 4 % fall of FAO price index. The price index of the Food And Agriculture Organization (FAO) of the UNO fell in its eleven-month minimum in October; it declined by 4 % to 216 points against September. However, despite the fact food prices remain in year-on-year comparison generally higher and very volatile. The decline in FAO price index was caused by a steep fall in international prices of cereals, oils, sugar and milk products. Meat prices decreased least. In spite of the significant fall in FAO price index in October (published on the 3rd of November) prices were still by 5 % higher than in the same period last year.

Lesy ČR still shows growth of operating results - almost 5 milliard over first three quarters

Operating results of LČR over 9 months this year reached 4.965 milliard CZK. A similar result has not been ever achieved in the firm´s history. The operating results (OR) is already by 1.8 milliard crowns higher now than over the entire last year. OR is not a consequence of reduction in costs for care of forests, nor of increase in timber harvesting: yearly timber harvesting is similar - costs for care of forests are at the highest level; LČR returns back to forest record 4 milliard crowns this year, mainly into growing activity, building and maintenances of forest infrastructure and water courses.

November - Wood as renewable raw material

Our republic takes the 12th place in forest coverage (33.5 %) among European states, it is on the 4th place in wood reserves per 1 hectare (245.8 m3/ha) and on the 6th place in yearly increase per 1 ha (7.8 m3/ha). Especially the last two data show that the state of forests in the Czech Republic is by far not such as it is often presented, unfortunately. The total yearly increase (what grows in forests yearly) in Czech forest is approximately 18 mil. m3, hereat, roughly 14 - 15 mil. m3 is harvested yearly, it means that wood reserves increase annually by at least 3 mil. m3 and they amounted to 650 mil. m3 in 2003 (it was 307 mil. m3 in 1930). Owing to enlargement of forests area the increase grows; it means that wood reserves in the CR increase as well as dynamics and speed of this process.
