Czech garlic returned in chain stores; people do not hesitate to pay extra

First chain stores included Czech garlic in their offer to satisfy growing demand for this traditional vegetable. This year in the spring, it was almost impossible to get Czech garlic in shops because Czech growers stopped from growing garlic owing to cheap imports from abroad in foregoing years. Czech garlic is twice more expensive than the Chinese. From October, Czech garlic is sold for example by supermarkets Billa which have sold till this time only garlic imported from abroad.

Sugar weakened to more than seven-week minimum

The most active futures contract for raw sugar continues already the seventh day in weakening on the exchange ICE Futures U.S. The main causes are marks of growing offer at time when the demand for the mentioned stimulant decreases. According to independent estimations the supply volume will exceed the worldwide supply in the marketing year, which started the last month, by as many as 5 million metric tonnes. Owing to a higher domestic production for example Pakistan cancelled plans for import of 100 thousand tonnes of sugar.

Biomarket in Great Britain slightly decreased

In 2010, Great Britain recorded bio-product turnover in height of two mld. EUR in amount of two mld. Eur. This sum represents a decrease 5.9 percents against the foregoing year (Organic Market Report of British organization Soil Association). Causes of decreased demand are limited offer of bio-foods on shelves of supermarkets and a disconcertion of inhabitants owing to the economic situation in the country. The bio-food turnover is in Great Britain traditionally dependent on conventional retail.

Agriculture desperately lack young

A number of employees in agriculture has decreased to the tenth since 1948 to the last year. While, in 1948 1.3 million people worked in the branch on the territory Bohemia, Moravia and Silesia, it was only 132 000 last year. It results from data published in a Historical yearbook of Czech agriculture 1918 - 2010 introduced by the Czech Statistic Office (CSO). Also a share of women in employment in the branch decreased significantly in the mentioned period. While sixty years ago, women created the absolute majority of employees in agriculture, in 2010 it was only one third.
