Appreciated regional foods of Moravian-Silesian region will be introduced in Ostrava

In total eight agricultural products succeeded in the second year of the project Regional food in Moravian-Silesian region which is organized by the Ministry of Agriculture to support local producers. The presentation of winning products, among them for example Trefilovy masopustní klobásy (Trefil´s carnival sausages) or original honey wine Medovinka, took place at Ostrava Gastro festival. A special exposition is given to the appreciated regional foods. So, the public will have a possibility to taste the winning products or to buy them.

Government will negotiate draft budget of SZIF for next year

The government will negotiate a draft budget of the State Agricultural Intervention Fund (SZIF) for the next year on Wednesday. According to it the fund should manage with 39.3 milliard crowns next year, by more than four milliard lower sum than this year. It results from data published by the Ministry of Agriculture on its web today. Among others, the Fund administers payment of agrarian subsidies. “The Ministry submits a Draft budget of the State Agricultural Intervention Fund (SZIF) for 2012 to the government for consideration so that the government could ask the Chamber of Deputies for its approval together with a draft budget of the Czech Republic for the next year”, the Ministry of Agriculture stated to the material on its web.

Amount of packaging wastes in EU decreases

According an analysis EUROPEN, the amount of unused packaging wastes decreased by 43 % in the EU-15 countries during the period 1998-2008. A salvage and recycling of PET bottles increased by 6.5 % in Europe in 2010. A report of EUROPEN (European organization for packaging and the environment) “Packaging and Packaging Waste Statistics in Europe” analyzing EU data states that the amount of packing waste (on dumps) in the EU-15 decreased by 43 % over the last 11 years (1998 - 2008). It is a result of recycling of packages and other forms of their use. There were at disposal over 17 mil. tonnes of packaging material in the EU-27 in 2008. For comparison - the amount wastes from food was 89 mil. t, so quintuple.

European Union will strengthen national programmes of plant protection

The European Union will support national programmes of plant pest protection with a total sum 19 mil. EUR. Germany, besides six other member states, will obtain a financial aid for protection against sawyer beetle Anoplophora glabripennis and Anoplophora chinensis. Both wood pests attack healthy trees and can cause their necrosis during several few years. A risk of further spread of the pests and a danger for forest ecosystem is high. “The importance of health state of plants is often underestimated”, an Euro-commissioner for health care and consumer policy John Dalli says.
