Price of corn and wheat nosedived after USDA report

Price of corn and wheat nosedived the most for the last three months during yesterday´s trading. The cause was increase of reserve estimation from the USDA´s side. Corn reserves in the USA, the biggest grower and exporter of the commodity in the world, should move at a level 846 million bushels which is by 12 % more against predictions of analytics. The global production should be at a record level. Nor reports on a further drought in South America, which negatively affects local crop did not prevent the fall of corn. A company Agroconsult estimates that the crop in Brazil and Argentina will decrease owing to the drought by 11 million tonnes.

Veterinarians send back in Poland 200 000 eggs from objectionable farms

The State Veterinary Administration (SVS) sends back in Poland a delivery 200 000 eggs from firm which keep hens in disallowed smaller cages. So called unenriched cages, where hens have a smaller space and worse living conditions, are forbidden in the European Union since beginning of this year. It is dealt with the first case when eggs from a farm with unenriched cages have been caught. “We will act similarly in all found cases. It is unthinkable so that domestic producers would be damaged on the own market by the fact that they respected requirement of European legislative”, the Minister of Agriculture Petr Bendl.

SCO: Paprikas and tomatoes rose in price more significantly

Price of paprikas and tomatoes have risen more significantly in shops in recent four weeks, both by more than 16 percents. Vice versa, granulated sugar slightly cheapened, by more than 4 percents to 23.76 CZK/kg. The Czech Statistic Office (CSO) stated it. Tomatoes were sold on shelves of shops for 40.76 crowns for a kilogram; so their price rose by 5.84 crowns, by 16.72 percents. The price of paprikas increased by 7.41 hellers to 52.46 CZK/kg. For example also apples were more expensive; people have to pay by two crowns more; they cost 28.54 CZK/kg.

Vine-growers wait for frost to be able to pick ice grapevine from 2011

Not all vine-growers from South Moravia have already had their crop in a cellar. Even if it is a half of January, some of them impatiently wait for frost to pick the best what the year 2011 offers – ice grapevine. Flocks of mina birds and guards with bang rifle keep an eye on the crop of blue vineyards in Velké Pavlovice since the autumn. All wait. Vine-growers for frost, mina birds for calm. “Meteorologists promise frost on Sunday, so we still wait”, a vine-grower Radomil Baloun tells.

Group breeding of sows in lactation

Within a project GELAS, German scientists compare a group breeding of sows with piglets with individual stabling. A formation of classic maternity pen for sows is a matter of big criticism in the last period; therefore solutions are intensively searched how to offer sows bigger possibility of movement. Therefore a project of scientists from Christian-Albrechts-University with a seat in German Kielu with a name GELAS (Gruppenhaltung mit Einzelbuchtsteuerung für laktierende Sauen) had the aim to compare efficiency of sows stabled in groups together with piglets with automatically operated individual pens with efficiency of sows stables in conventional pens.
