For the present, 11 000 farmers have asked for main agricultural subsidies

An application for main agricultural subsidy has been submitted for the present by about 11 000 farmers; a spokesman of the State Agricultural Intervention Fund (SZIF) Petr Hlavatý informed. The Fund expects that record roughly 27 500 subjects will submit so called unified application for subsidies. About 30 billion CZK will be distributed among the receivers.

False Žatec hop was sold in Russia

After several years, a seller of false Žatec hop appeared again on Russian market. It belongs to very appreciated and the most expensive in the world. It is used in premium beers. Its producers have obtained from the European Union a right to mark it with the Protected Designation of Origin Žateck hop since 2007.

Cruel breeders will be in risk of confiscating of animals and ban of breeding

The House of Parliament approved an amendment today (9.6.2012), according to which the state could confiscate animals to people who torture them, or could forbid cruel breeders to keep them further.  However, from the bill which aims in the Senate a proposal of the agricultural committee for a controversial regulation dropped out according to which policemen could enter a flat owing to a suspicion of animal cruelty.

Persons tending pigs will not have to pass training

Persons tending and feeding pigs will not probably have to pass obligatory courses and trainings regarding a care of pigs. The House of Parliament decided that when it passed a government amendment of the veterinary law contained in an amendment of the law in protection of animals against cruelty. Representatives on the proposal from the agricultural committee omitted this duty from the bill.

Babiš´s Agrofert earned nine billion crowns last year

A consolidated profit of the group Agrofert Holding belonging to en entrepreneur Andrej Babiš almost by a half to 8.7 billion crowns year-on-yearly last year. Consolidated takings increased to 117.6 billion CZK from 92.1 billion the year before last one. The main share in the results improvement belonged to chemical industry.
