CR has biggest agricultural companies in EU, at average they have 152 ha

The Czech Republic has at average by far the biggest agricultural companies, as regards the hectare acreage. According to data of the European Statistical Office (Eurostat), at average 152 hectares of land fell on Czech agricultural enterprise last year. The second place is occupied in this respect by Britain with “only” 79 hectares per company, followed by Denmark with the average 65 hectares, Luxembourg with 59 hectares and Germany with 56 hectares. Vice versa, the smallest are unambiguously agricultural estates on Malta where at average one hectare of land falls on a farm.

European Commission´s proposals for reform of Common Agricultural Policy invoked mixed reactions

The European Commission published long-awaited legislative proposals to the CAP reform after 2013 yesterday. It continued in a consultation process and the Communication of the future of the CAP from the last November. From a deliverance of the EU commissioner for agriculture Dacian Ciolos it is obvious that proposals of the reform are mostly concurrent with what the Commission presented as its intentions in last months and what was already a subject of discussions with expert public also in the CR. The text will be analyzed in details by experts of the Ministry of Agriculture and an official attitude of the CR to them will be elaborated.

Bread production decreased by six percents in CR last year. Czechs save on it

Bread production in the Czech Republic decreased year-on-yearly by six percents to 289 000 tonnes last year. The Czechs save on bread owing to a crisis in recent years. They still more and more prefer other kinds of bread (rolls, etc) to bread (loaf); also a number of users of home bakery, who bake bread themselves at home, increases. On the occasion of a celebration of the World Bread Day, it was stated by the Entrepreneurial Union of Bakers and Confectioners today. An inhabitant of the Czech Republic spends yearly for bread about 1000 crowns. “In the country where 128 milliard yearly is spend for hazard, other milliards for alcohol and cigarettes it should not be a problem to pay extra for quality bread which Czech bakers can produce”, the Union stated.

Standpoint of Agricultural Union of CR to legislative proposal of European Commission which concerns Common Agricultural Policy after 2013 and future of Czech agriculture

From a new proposal, to which a public discussion starts now, positive and negative thinks result for us. We consider as negative the fact that the prepared reform of the Common Agriculture Policy of the EU again passes by equal entrepreneurial conditions for the member state of the EU-15 and the EU-12 and strengthening of production role of European agriculture respecting new challenges. It rather concerns on further strengthening of the environmental role of agriculture.
